Daria Rogozina crowned the Winter Triathlon queen in Cogne

Two world titles in less than 24 hours—this is the recap, so far, of Neutral Athlete Daria Rogozina’s weekend at the 2025 Cogne Winter Triathlon World Championships. After grabbing the gold medal at the Winter Duathlon World Championships yesterday, Rogozina dominated the Winter Triathlon race today from the beginning, securing her fourth world title. Joining her on the podium today were two Czech athletes, Aneta Grabmuller Soldati and Helena Karásková.

A total of 24 elite and U23 women lined up today at the beautiful ski cross resort of Cogne in the Aosta Valley for the Winter Triathlon World Championships. They faced a course in perfect snow conditions, which included a 4 km run on snow, 8 km cycling, and a final 8 km ski.

The race began with Norway’s Kristin Waaktaar Opland opening a significant gap during the first 2 km of running on the snow, making it to transition with a lead of 15 seconds.

However, as soon as they were on their bikes, Daria Rogozina and Sandra Meirhofer started the chase, with the Neutral Athlete moving into first place halfway through the bike segment, followed by two-time Winter Triathlon World Champion Sandra Meirhofer. Behind them, a small pack of athletes, which included Waaktaar Opland and U23 athlete Zuzana Michalickova (SVK), made it together to the second transition.

She recorded the fastest splits in both bike and ski segments, and by the time she crossed the finish line in first place, she had built an impressive lead of almost 90 seconds over Grabmuller Soldati.

Behind the two leaders, the battle for bronze was epic, with two-time Winter Triathlon World Champion Sandra Mairhofer moving into third place during the bike segment, only to be passed by Helena Karásková—who won bronze yesterday at the Winter Duathlon World Championships—during the ski segment.

The fact that the race finished with the ski segment benefitted Karásková, who crossed the finish line in third place while a visibly disappointed Mairhofer came in fourth.

20250222 Pbb 6999Much happier upon crossing the finish line was Zuzana Michalickova (SVK), who claimed her second U23 title this weekend after winning the U23 category in the Winter Duathlon race. The Slovakian athlete performed solidly in all three disciplines, finishing with a minute and a half lead over the U23 silver medalist, Axelle Vicari (ITA), and nearly three minutes ahead of the third-place finisher, Norway’s Julie Meinicke.

20250222 Pbb 5140In the junior race, Neutral Athlete Alina Liagaeva claimed her second consecutive victory of the weekend, having also won the Winter Duathlon race. Her performance was unforgettable, as she increased her gap in all disciplines to cross the finish line with more than seven minutes over silver medalist Alice Ventre (ITA). The bronze medal went to another Italian, Ludovica Sabbia.
