Coach Education Update | June 2026

June saw progress across World Triathlon’s Coach Education pathway, alongside adaptation in response to global and regional challenges. While some projects have been adjusted in their delivery, projects have continued, maintaining learning continuity, and improving the quality and accessibility of coach education worldwide.

Beirut OS–World Triathlon Level 2 Coach Course – hybrid continuation

The 2026 OS–World Triathlon Level 2 Coach Course for Beirut is currently on hold in its face-to-face component due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region. In response, the programme was transitioned to a hybrid delivery model to ensure support for the participants.  Nine Lebanese coaches have now successfully completed the six-week online interactive phase, which included weekly seminars and open office hours facilitated by World Triathlon Development facilitators Tomas Perucca (ARG)and Vicent Beltran (ESP).  With travel to Lebanon still assessed as unsafe at this time, World Triathlon Development is actively exploring alternative ways to keep the cohort engaged and progressing through the remainder of their studies. The priority remains ensuring that candidates are supported through a structured and useful learning experience despite the disruption to in-person delivery.

Valletta World Triathlon Level 1 Coach Course – preparation phase

The Level 1 Coach Course in Malta continues to progress well in its hybrid delivery tailored to national federation needs.  During June, the five Maltese candidates completed their final phase of online preparation ahead of their upcoming face-to-face contact days in Valletta next month. The course is being facilitated by Miloš Petelin (SLO), who has guided the group through the remote modules and continues to support their transition into the practical components of the programme.  This blended approach has allowed participants to build strong theoretical foundations online while preparing for applied coaching work during the in-person sessions.

Sports Science and Physiology Revision – Education & Knowledge HUB update

Significant progress was made in June on the ongoing review and refinement of Sports Science and Physiology content for the World Triathlon Education & Knowledge HUB.  The working group has advanced the structure and clarity of the revised materials, with the updated content nearing completion for implementation. As expected, this has been one of the more complex revision processes, requiring careful balance between robust scientific accuracy and accessible, coach-friendly messaging.  The aim of the update is to ensure that foundational physiological principles are clearly understood and easily applied in real coaching environments, without compromising scientific integrity.

Action for the Recognition of Female Coaches

The latest National Federation Open Hours session included a dedicated presentation on the findings of the Female Coaches in Triathlon Status Study Update, shared with national federation leads. Following this, National Federations were encouraged to take action in their own contexts, with a series of linked initiatives now being developed across the remainder of the year. These will be integrated into both the World Triathlon Congress and Championship Finals week activities in Sanxenxo/Pontevedra, Spain, with the aim of strengthening recognition, visibility, and development pathways for female coaches across the sport.

As the coach education programme moves into the second half of the year, the focus remains on delivery, strengthening development, and ensuring that education pathways continue to evolve in line with both global realities and the needs of coaches on the ground.  Despite challenges in some regions, June has reinforced a consistent theme across all projects - the importance of continuity and collaboration in developing the next generation of triathlon coaches.
