April 2025 wrap up of Technical Official Courses

World Triathlon continues to strengthen its global officiating network through targeted education seminars, ensuring technical officials are well-prepared to deliver safe, fair, and world-class events. In April, three important seminars were delivered in Vietnam, Paraguay, and Nepal, bringing together emerging technical leaders from across Asia and the Americas.

Brief reports on each seminar can be found below -

2025 Tam Chuc World Triathlon Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar – Vietnam

Hosted in the scenic region of Tam Chuc, Vietnam, this seminar welcomed officials from Vietnam and Indonesia, with a 29% female participation rate. The course brought together enthusiastic newcomers and experienced sport administrators alike—most notably, Ms. Thu Phuong Nguyen, Secretary General of the Vietnam Triathlon Federation, who also took part in the course as a student. Her active participation highlighted the federation’s hands-on commitment to technical development at all levels.

'I sincerely thank TRI Facilitators’ support in sharing knowledge and experience in the classroom and for providing hands-on guidance at the World Triathlon Development Regional Cup. Thank you to all of you who came and contributed to the success of this year's event. We look forward to seeing you all again at the upcoming event in Vietnam and to further exploring the beautiful scenery of our country. Thank you all.' - Thu Phuong Nguyen - Secretary General, VIE NF

“From 3 TRI certified TOs since 2021, Vietnam Triathlon Federation can boast of over 12 TOs. They have done well in class, written exam and practical test - officiating in the 2025 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup Tam Chuc. Vietnam is ready to host another Development Cup or Asia Cup next year.” - Sarita Zafra (PHI) TRI Facilitator

“Thank you VIE NF for the great collaboration, and it is great to see new TRI facilitators transferring knowledge to a new batch of TOs in Asia” - Firas Al-Hmood (JOR) Asia Triathlon Continental Development Coordinator

2025 Encarnación World Triathlon Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar – Paraguay

With technical delegates attending from both Paraguay and Argentina, the Encarnación seminar provided a collaborative platform for learning and regional networking. The course achieved a 40% female participation rate, reflecting ongoing efforts toward gender balance in officiating. A key highlight was the presence of Leticia Amarillas, the appointed Coordinator of Judges & Technical Officials for the Junior Pan American Games ASU 2025, who offered valuable insights into officiating at multi-sport events and upcoming continental opportunities.

“A space was created where everyone had the opportunity to introduce themselves, fostering team integration and reminding everyone that we all once felt nervous officiating at our first event. It was a time for reflection on the importance of teamwork. Creating moments to share experiences always helps build a more empathetic environment.” - Irving Zavala (MEX) TRI Facilitator

“Everything was extraordinary! Gratitude and respect to the TOs and facilitators for their experience and knowledge.” - Román Vargas (PAR) TO

2025 Pokhara World Triathlon Technical Officials Level 1 Seminar – Nepal

Set against the breathtaking Himalayan backdrop, the Pokhara seminar brought together representatives from Nepal and India, with a female participation rate of 22%. The course underscored World Triathlon’s mission to build officiating capacity in South Asia and foster cross-border collaboration. Nilendra Raj Shrestha, President of the Nepal Triathlon Association, joined the seminar as a guest speaker, reinforcing the federation’s strong commitment to elevating standards in event delivery and official training.

“The Nepal Triathlon Association extend our heartfelt thanks to the World Triathlon for this valuable opportunity and one of Asia’s most experienced course facilitators, Ms. Melody Tan from Malaysia. Her expertise and engaging delivery allowed the participants to gain valuable insights and get the most out of the course. With more trained Technical Officials now in Pokhara—a city that has proudly hosted the Asia Triathlon Cup and South Asian Championships since 2012—we are better prepared than ever to support the growth and professionalism of triathlon in the region.” - Nilendra Raj Shrestha President, NEP NF

These seminars are part of World Triathlon's global strategy to grow, strengthen, and diversify its network of technical officials. With continued support from national federations and experienced course facilitators, 2025 is becoming a strong year for technical development across all continents.
