ANADO Conference 2009

ITU’s Anti-doping Director, Leslie Buchanan, went to the Association of National Anti-doping Agencies meeting in Auckland, New Zealand from November 11th – 14th, 2009. She presented on ITU’s position on whereabouts.  She highlighted the concerns that athletes are having with the current whereabouts policies and was part of a panel discussion that included other sports such as Rugby and Cricket as well as National Anti-doping Agencies from Japan and Bermuda.

Other speakers at the Conference included WADA President Honorable John Fahey, A.C. and WADA Director General David Howman, along with a number of Anti-doping experts from National Anti-doping Organizations from around the world.  The major focus of the conference was on anti-doping education and Drug Free Sport New Zealand, as hosts of the conference, led the participants through a variety of discussions surrounding education.  Rob Koehler, WADA’s Director of Education, challenged the group to do more with less by offering suggestions of what an Anti-doping program can look like.

ITU’s Anti-doping Team will be working toward improving their Anti-doping Education strategy based on some of the ideas that were presented at the conference.
