2025 marks the eighth year of World Triathlon’s annual Certificate Revalidation of Coaches (CRoC) initiative. While the total number of participating coaches continues to grow—driven largely by newly certified individuals—overall engagement remains steady at around 50% when measured against all certificates issued since 2014, including those now expired. Notably, Level 2 coaches show higher rates of revalidation, likely reflecting their stronger commitment and ongoing involvement in the coaching profession.

Email notifications (group announcements through the Education & Knowledge HUB) still need to improve. Asia was again the most actively revalidating continent in 2025. It is important to note that the ratio of certified coaches shows an increasing trend in Asia, stagnates in the Americas and Oceania, and decreases in Africa and Europe.

On a National Federation Level, most participating NFs are still in the top cluster regarding their relative participation (revalidating individuals vs all certified coaches). Note, that some of these NFs have very few certified coaches. Other nations with many certified coaches have poorer participation figures, which affects this KPI on a large scale. The engagement of Asia Triathlon NFs is clear again.

The progression from Level 1 to 2 again shows an opposite pattern: most NFs can’t make their coaches advance in the Coaching Pathway. Since 2023, World Triathlon has continuously provided pay-based revalidation opportunities to coaches who, for some reason, could not maintain their certification.

The phenomenon of submitting AI-generated answers in online education continues, and as users become more familiar with AI tools, it is becoming more common.

The Revalidation of Expired Certifications course has been a fully automated and continuously available e-learning revalidation opportunity since 2023. Nineteen and ten individuals returned to the World Triathlon Coaching Pathway in 2023 and 2024.

Triathlon Brasil, within the Coach Education Partnership Programme, is using the World Triathlon revalidation tasks (vs. Triathlon Ireland, which has its own tasks and administration for the process). In addition to the 927 participating World Triathlon coaches, 36 Triathlon Brasil CEPP coaches have also completed the 2025 revalidation.
