Gabriela Gallegos is President and Race Director for Race El Paso as well as an attorney and Associate Professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health. Gabriela founded Race El Paso in late 2009 to develop a culture of health and active living in El Paso, focusing on beginners and athlete education to encourage goal setting and active lifestyles. Race El Paso’s first event, Eagle in the Sun Triathlon, debuted in 2010 to a sell-out crowd. She now directs 6 annual running and multisport events, including the all-female Mighty Mujer Triathlon, which has expanded into a series and is televised live.
She was inducted into the El Paso Women’s Hall of Fame for contributions in Sports & Athletics in 2018. In 2019, she gave a keynote address at the Outspoken Women in Triathlon Summit. In 2020, Gabriela appeared as a panelist and guest on multiple endurance sports podcasts to speak about pandemic-related challenges facing race directors and strategies for advancing racial diversity in the sport.
