World Triathlon is proud to announce that World Triathlon First Vice President, Dr. Debra Alexander, has been elected President of the Association of Paralympic Sports Organisations (APSO), in recognition of her enduring commitment and impactful leadership within the Paralympic movement and particularly Para triathlon. Her election is a testament to her dedication to fostering collaboration and development among international Para sport federations.
World Triathlon President Antonio Arimany offered his warmest congratulations, stating: “Debbie has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, and a deep commitment to inclusivity in our Executive Board and also within the Paralympic community. On behalf of World Triathlon, I extend our heartfelt congratulations on her election as APSO President. We are confident that her vision and passion will continue to elevate Para sport and especially Para triathlon globally.”
Mr. Arimany and World Triathlon Para triathlon Senior Manager Eric Angstadt were present in Seoul for the elections. This election took place on Tuesday 23, September at the APSO General Assembly held this past week alongside the 2025
IPC General Assembly.
Upon her election, Dr. Alexander expressed her excitement and commitment, stating: “I am both honored and energized by the trust placed in me to serve as APSO President. I remain deeply committed to advancing opportunities for Para athletes and to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to further strengthen our movement in the years ahead.”
The 2025 IPC General Assembly, held in Seoul, South Korea, also saw the re-election of Andrew Parsons as President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for a third and final four-year term. Parsons received 109 out of 177 valid votes, prevailing over Dong Hyun Bae of South Korea. In addition to the presidency, the General Assembly elected Portugal’s Leila Marques Mota as First Vice President and Denmark’s John Petersson as Second Vice-President; however, elections for IPC Members at Large (Governing Board) were postponed due to time constraints, with a new Extraordinary General Assembly to be held remotely on a date to be announced.
