World Triathlon has opened tthe bidding process for host cities wishing to stage the 2027 and 2028 editions of the World Triathlon Winter Championships and Winter Cups, as well as the World Triathlon Powerman Middle Distance and Long Distance Duathlon Championships.

Cities and National Federations with ambitions to host world-class multisport events are encouraged to submit their proposals by 20 June 2026, with host city selections to be announced on 20 August 2026.

About the Events

The World Triathlon Winter Championships and Winter Cups bring together elite and age-group athletes across winter triathlon and winter duathlon disciplines, with the format recently revised to increase the number of transitions for Elite, U23 and Junior categories, and with an Age-Group event also included in the World Championships programme to give additional competitive opportunities and create an additional revenue stream for organisers.

Estimated athlete participation at the Winter World Championships stands at 300 athletes in triathlon and 190 in duathlon, spanning Elite/U23, Junior, Para and Age-Group categories.

The World Triathlon Powerman Middle/Long Distance Duathlon Championships, organised in partnership with Powerman, are expected to attract approximately 50 elite and para athletes alongside 350 age-groupers for the Middle Distance, and 50 elite and 250 age-group athletes for the Long Distance.

Hosting either event offers significant exposure and economic impact. The championships offer a major boost for local tourism and enhancement of the host city's global profile, attendance of hundreds of competing athletes, families and support teams, and widespread coverage across all official World Triathlon social media channels.

Interested cities or LOCs should submit their bid documents electronically to sport@triathlon.org no later than 20 June 2026. All documents must be submitted in English, prepared in a simple format, and evaluated on substance and content. Maps, diagrams and digital photos should be included.
