Wollongong shines as the Age-Group Championships inspire the globe

The 2025 World Triathlon Age-Group Championships in Wollongong, Australia, will be remembered as a week where sport, spirit and community came together in unforgettable style. From the electric Parade of Nations that lit up the streets to the spectacular Opening Ceremony on the foreshore, the atmosphere was pure Triathlon magic from start to finish.

Over 3,500 World Triathletes from across the globe raced proudly beneath their nation’s colours, conquering the Sprint, Standard, Aquabike and Age-Group Mixed Relay World Championships on Australia’s stunning south coast. Each athlete’s journey along the famous blue carpet was a moment to remember, from first-time world competitors to returning legends chasing personal bests and podium glory.

The city of Wollongong truly shone throughout the Championships. Locals lined the streets, volunteers brought boundless energy and the community embraced every athlete, family and fan with open arms. The vibrant event precinct buzzed with music, cheers and celebration as Triathlon pride filled every corner of the city.

Inspiration reached new heights as the Elite World Titles were decided, with Germany’s Lisa Tertsch crowned the 2025 Elite Women’s World Champion and Australia’s Matt Hauser claiming the Elite Men’s crown in front of a roaring home crowd. Their victories were the perfect finale to an extraordinary week of racing that celebrated the power and passion of the global triathlon family.

As the sun set on the Closing Ceremony, the World Triathlon Championships flag was officially passed to Pontevedra, Spain, which will host the 2026 edition. The handover marked both an ending and a beginning, a moment for reflection on what was achieved in Wollongong and excitement for what’s to come in Spain.
