Europe Triathlon would like to share with athletes, coaches and all other attendees involved in the City of Derry Triathlon the statement issued by Triathlon Ireland this afternoon.

Europe Triathlon is looking forward to welcoming the sport to Derry for what promises to be a fantastic weekend of racing. With athletes from across the globe taking part, we look forward to an exciting and memorable event and wish the athletes, coaches, officials and volunteers a very successful weekend.

Having discussed the event with the LOC and National Federation, Europe Triathlon is confident that the race can proceed safely and provide a safe and enjoyable event for all athletes.

The City of Derry looks forward to welcoming athletes tomorrow at the bike and swim familiarisation with them starting at 10am and 11am respectively. A reminder that the athlete briefing starts at 18:45 at Ebrington Square.

Following recent discussion online regarding athlete participation in the Europe Triathlon Cup - City of Derry, Triathlon Ireland wishes to clarify that international event entry lists remain provisional until formally confirmed by Europe Triathlon.

The final start list for Saturday’s event has now been confirmed and does not include any athletes representing Israel.

The selection and confirmation of athletes for Europe Triathlon Cup competition is managed by Europe Triathlon, under World Triathlon rules. It is not possible to comment on the circumstances or decisions relating to individual athletes. The Local Organising Committee has no role in selecting the international start list.

Preparations for Saturday’s event are continuing as planned. The organisers are working closely with the relevant authorities and event partners, with the safety and wellbeing of athletes, officials, volunteers, spectators and the wider public remaining the priority.

Up to 200 elite athletes from across the world are due to compete alongside hundreds of athletes taking part in the wider programme of racing in Derry this weekend.

We look forward to welcoming athletes and visitors to the city and to showcasing a spectacular celebration of international sport in Derry.
