Turbayevskiy and Danilova secure victory in Penza

Vladimir Turbayevskiy’s successful 2012 season continued at pace with victory in the European Cup at Penza.

Turbayevskiy (RUS) was second in this race last year, but went one better to record his second victory of the season, and first on home soil.

Turbayevskiy led home a Russian 1-2-3, with Ivan Tutukin recording his first podium finish in over two years in second place and Igor Polyanskiy in third.

Elena Danilova (RUS) won her first International Triathlon in the Elite Women’s race.

The 2010 European Junior Duathlon Champion finished ahead of Arina Shulgina in second place and Ukrainian Yuliya Yelistratova in third.

Yelistratova broke the Russian dominance, just as she did last year, with her first European individual podium of the year.

In the European Junior Cup, Alexey Khmelevskiy and Anastasia Protasenya recorded their second career victories as the Russians one again dominated the podium places.

Protasenya first win came in Alanya two years ago so a victory was long overdue. She finished ahead of Anastasia Gorbunova, who once again had to settle for the runners up spot in Penza.

Last year’s winner Olga Agapova could not defend her title but will be delighted to have still made the podium in third place.

In the Junior Men’s race, Khmelevskiy was pushed all the way by Andrey Moiseenko, winning the race by a four second margin.

Nevertheless, Moiseenko will be delighted to record his first ever Junior Cup podium finish.

Ilya Prasolov is a model of consistency on this Penza course, once again finishing in third place to complete the podium.
