On Sunday, on June 24th about 600 athletes from 21 countries will start in the 25th edition of Triathlon Vlaanderen, which is held as the 2007 ETU Long Distance Triathlon European Championships.
About 50 elite and 300 age-group athletes and more than 200 recreants take the start at 12 pm.
In the elite field, the 2006 World Champions, Torbjorn Sindballe from Denmark and Bella Comerford from Great Britain will be on the start line.
In the men’s field all the top six athletes from the 2006 European Championships will try to repeat their good performance in 2007, including the defending European Champion Jens Koefoed from Denmark, the Belgian duo of Stijn Demeulemeester and Gerrit Schellens, Petr Vabrousek from Czech Republic, an other Danish Jimmy Johnsen and Stephen Bayliss from Great Britain.
In the women’s field, Martina Dogana from Italy got silver last year in Almere, but for sure she will try to have a brighter medal in 2007. Natalia Barkun, representing Belarus will also be the one to watch.
A part of the championship will be live on national television “Sporza”.
