As the hunt for the 2026 world title enters its final stages, every choice both within and without races suddenly becomes all the more important. For instance, the winners of WTCS Yokohama and WTCS Hamburg, Tilda Månsson (SWE) and Leonie Periault (FRA), have opted out of both WTCS Weihai and WTCS Karlovy Vary, thereby costing themselves the chance to improve upon their points totals.
By contrast, the past three women’s champions will go head-to-head in Weihai. In addition to duelling one another, Beth Potter (GBR), Lisa Tertsch (GER) and Cassandre Beaugrand (FRA) will therefore look to punish Månsson and Periault’s decision and ensure the Series Final in Pontevedra is at most a three-athlete bout.

The Big Three
Potter, the 2023 world champion, comes into Weihai as the Series leader and as last year’s race winner. She also took home the silver medal at the 2024 event. With a strong record at the venue, this could be a golden opportunity to log her first win since the Series opener in Samarkand.
Meanwhile, Tertsch, last year’s world champion, sits in 3rd overall behind Månsson in the overall standings. As last year’s silver medallist and the 2024 race winner, she has an enviable record in Weihai to match that of Potter. Thus far in the 2026 Series, the German athlete has yet to claim a victory. To do so now, though, would make a real statement ahead of the Final.
And then of course we have the 2024 world and Olympic champion Beaugrand. This will be the French athlete’s first time in Weihai, but she arrives unbeaten in 2026. No matter the direction she has turned this season – whether in the WTCS or in her ongoing pursuit for French running records – Beaugrand has come away with success. Given she does not even need to win in Weihai to seize control of the Series lead, the pressure is off. And that will make her an even more daunting proposition.
Home from home
Alongside Potter and Tertsch, several athletes have taken a real shine to racing in Weihai. Two standouts among this group are Tanja Neubert (GER) and Gina Sereno (USA), both of whom will be back in search of a third straight big result.
In 2024, Neubert scored a personal best Series finish of 4th. The following year, she went even better with a maiden medal by placing 3rd. Few athletes on the start list possess the same power on two wheels as the German, and whether she ends up in the lead or the chase group on the bike could shape the race.
Similarly, Gina Sereno (USA) enjoyed a best-ever WTCS finish of 8th place during her first visit to Weihai. Like Neubert, she improved upon that with a 7th place finish. Should she continue on her trajectory, a first medal could be around the corner for the up-and-coming American.
Looking for big results
Roksana Slupek (POL), the freshly-crowned European sprint champion, is another in with a great shout of taking a first WTCS podium. Similarly, Ana Maria Valentina Torres Gomez (MEX) has enjoyed a golden summer with wins at the Huatulco World Cup and the Central America and Caribbean Games. Should Torres arrive in T2 with the leaders, her running speed could see her upset a favourite or two.
Of the home team, Xinyu Lin (CHN) seems the likeliest candidate to achieve a high finish; like Neubert, she could have a big part to play in shaping the bike. Moreover, 2023 and 2024 World U23 champions Selina Klamt (GER) and Karolina Helga Horváth (HUN) could be in line for big finishes. While the talk of Weihai will be about the Big Three, then, there will be no shortage of candidates looking to elbow them out of the medals.
