Save the date! 2027 Hamburg World Triathlon Championship Finals scheduled

The 2027 World Triathlon Championship Finals will take place in Hamburg from September 8 to 12, 2027. This has been agreed upon by the German Triathlon Union (DTU), World Triathlon, and the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. By hosting the Grand Final of the World Triathlon Championship Series (WTCS) for the first time, Hamburg will become the venue for the world’s largest triathlon event and will take center stage in international elite sports for five days.

Twenty years after the first World Championship on German soil and Daniel Unger’s first German World Championship title, the city on the Elbe will once again become the meeting place for the world’s best triathletes.

Following World Championships in 2007 and 2023, the next step in the event’s development will come in 2027 with the joint season finale and the decision of all title races.

More than 500,000 spectators lining the compact downtown courses around Rathausmarkt, Jungfernstieg, and the Alster underscore the extraordinary scale of the event. During the event week, a total of more than 16,000 participants, as well as numerous support staff, officials, and guests from over 70 nations, are expected.

Traditionally, the SUZUKI World Triathlon Hamburg presented by HAMBURG WASSER also hosts the sprint and short-distance races of the Open Races, which will celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2027.

The elite races will be broadcast live on German free-to-air TV as well as via international platforms, reaching a global audience. For years, Hamburg has been one of the series’ most-watched stops and is firmly established on the international racing calendar.

Comments on the event

'Hamburg's relationship with triathlon is one of the most enduring and cherished in our sport. Since first hosting the World Championships in 2007, the city has time and again demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to triathlon—delivering world-class events that athletes, fans, and partners hold in the highest regard. It is therefore deeply fitting that Hamburg will host the 2027 World Triathlon Championship Finals, an event that holds very special significance: it will be the first Championship Finals to be held as part of the highly anticipated Triathlon World Tour, the most exciting new chapter in the history of our sport. Hamburg is the perfect stage for that milestone, and we could not be more proud to bring the world's best triathletes back to the Alster,' says World Triathlon President Antonio Arimany.

“After the Olympic Games, the World Triathlon Championship Finals are the showcase of our sport—both in terms of athleticism and atmosphere. The fact that the Grand Final will be held in Germany and in Hamburg for the first time sends a strong signal for the sport of triathlon in this country and is a testament to the close, trusting collaboration among all partners. Over many years, Hamburg has established itself as an outstanding host of top international events,” says DTU President Prof. Dr. Martin Engelhardt.

“By hosting the 2027 World Triathlon Championship Finals, we are adding another sensational chapter to the success story of the Hamburg Triathlon. Already today, the Hamburg Triathlon—with its combination of elite and open races against a unique downtown backdrop—is a global flagship event where, every year, the excitement and inspiration of major international sporting events are palpable. The Olympic triathlon competition would also take place in this globally unique downtown triathlon arena. The season finale at Jungfernstieg and the Binnenalster thus offers a first taste of Olympic and Paralympic competitions in the heart of our city,” says Hamburg’s Senator for the Interior and Sports, Andy Grote.
