Hermes flies and Paralympic Champion Molina unstoppable in Samarkand Para Cup

There were Paralympic stars and fresh-out-of-the-box talents taking to a windswept Samarkand Para Cup course on Sunday afternoon, where a 750m swim transitioned into the fast, three-lap 20km bike circuit and 5km run to the tape awaited. Watch the action back on TriathlonLive.tv

The PTWC athletes were into the water first, Semen Radaev (RUS) narrowly leading Tijn Van Lange-Verhoek (NED) out of the water before the Dutchman closed the gap further, only for Radaev to pull clear and the Dutchman picking up an unfortunate DSQ after a transition infraction.

Next out were the PTVI visually impaired athletes, McClain Hermes (USA) showed what an exciting prospect she is for the next two years and into LA28, the talented swimmer taking to the front early and staying there. Serbia's Lazar Filipovic overcame increasingly choppy swim conditions to win the men's race with a margin of over two minutes from Paris 2024 silver medallist Thibaut Rigaudeau (FRA).

The PTS2 category saw wins for Vasilii Egorov (RUS) and Italy's newcomer Martina Abaterusso, the former artistic gymnast putting together three exceptional segments to take the tape by more than four minutes.

Spain's Daniel Molina showed his competitive edge was as sharp as ever as he eyed a defence of his PTS3 Paris 2024 Paralympic title in 2028, Anna Plotikova (RUS) with the women's PTS3 gold.

The PTS4 women's category was won by Turkey's Kubra Dere, Andrey Tolstikov with the men's gold after a fast swim set him up for the gold. Ugurcan Ozer of Turkey won the men's PTS5 gold with a rapid 18:14 run to the tape, Irina Grazhdanova (RUS) with the gold after a powerful swim-bike combination set her into an unassailable lead.
