Dear President Bertrandi, Dear Renato, Dear Friend,
Time is flying; it seems like just yesterday when I met you for the first time in Pontevedra in 2011, when you were the treasurer of the European Triathlon Union (ETU). Since then, we have experienced numerous events and shared significant moments that have contributed to the development of triathlon in Europe.
During this time, we have witnessed the growth of ETU, even in light of the challenging start you faced. The European Championships provided an opportunity for Europe to promote the sport, consolidating and strengthening the European Confederation.
Your leadership over the years has enabled ETU to maintain a robust financial position while significantly expanding events across Europe, including an impressive growth in junior events that have created a grassroots network. This development has reinforced the dominance of European athletes in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as at our World Championships.
We all know that, for you, Europe has always come first, and you have consistently fought for our interests, defending the European Triathlon Union in every forum.
The dedication and experience you brought from the corporate world have taught us so much. I will never forget the many meetings where you championed ETU's interests, nor will I forget our shared runs, particularly the 5 km race in Tiszaujvaros in 2017 during the World and European Cups. What a fantastic combination of events that was!
Your bottom-up approach to development, led by the Committee, has remained unique among continents, as has the additional European budget you secured for the growth of our sport, alongside the World Triathlon Grant.
I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for all these wonderful years. Please know that I will miss you at all TRI EB meetings, Congresses, competitions, and gatherings in the coming years. As a European, I want to acknowledge and thank you for your support and friendship; it has been an honor to work with you for over 12 years.
I am confident that we will have the opportunity to stay in touch in the years to come.
All the best,
Antonio F. Arimany
