New Caledonia collects double gold at 2015 Pacific Games

New Caledonia athletes Charlotte Robin and Audric Lucini both took the gold medals in the triathlon events at the 2015 Pacific Games this past Sunday.

In dominating performances, both athletes led from start to finish with both putting forward strong swim-bike combinations to set up their races.

Robin didn’t have it all her own way, however, with 17-year-old Tahiti athlete Salome de Barthez de Marmorieres chasing her all the way to the finish for silver. Celine Grymonprez-Hirzel, also from New Caledonia, put in a fast run for bronze.

Lucini also had a Tahitian athlete in Benjamin Zorgnotti chasing him home with Zorgnotti taking silver and New Caledonia taking bronze when Mathieu Szalamacha finished with a fast run.

All Team OTU development athletes were in attendance for this exciting race and all performed well. This is a huge race on their calendar and was a big focus for the last year or more. The team showed another level of progress from their efforts in Fiji last month and are a credit to their coaches and National Federations.

This race also had a teams medal based on a combination of the best three placings across both individual events. New Caledonia took gold, Tahiti won silver with Guam grabbing bronze.
