Weather conditions unfortunately forced the cancellation of the Europe Triathlon Junior Cup in Moletai, Lithuania, meaning the Junior Women were unable to race. However, the Junior Men’s semifinals were able to go ahead. But with changing conditions making racing increasingly challenging and dangerous for both athletes and spectators it was decided to not allow any more racing to take place on Saturday.

It was the athletes from the second semifinal who ultimately claimed all three medals, with Estonia taking two and home talent Kristupas Jančius securing silver.

Kalmer Kiiver claimed gold after crossing the line in the second semifinal in 23:46. He recorded the fastest swim and bike splits of the day, underlining his potential at international level. The victory marks the Estonian’s first international gold medal. While it may not have been the circumstances in which he would have wanted to claim his first victory, Kiiver’s performance highlighted the talent he possesses.

Jančius followed just 13 seconds behind, finishing his semifinal in 23:59 to secure his first-ever international podium. The result was particularly special for the Lithuanian, who was able to claim a medal on home soil.

Artur Abras completed the podium with a time of 24:16. The Estonian’s performance earned him bronze, giving Estonia two medalists from the second semifinal and rounding off a successful day for the nation.
