On 8 March, Karelia hosted the “Triathlon Karelia” Festival for Winter Triathlon and Duathlon Age-group athletes.

More than 100 athletes gathered at the Kurgan sports complex to compete in various distances.

For the first time, the event featured a Winter Duathlon format, which attracted a remarkable number of participants. The youth races alone brought together 70 children, who showed strong performances and great enthusiasm.

“This was a pilot project for us. We have seen growing interest in triathlon both in the Republic of Karelia and from the Russian Triathlon Federation. Recently, we held a working meeting with A. Chivin, First Deputy Minister of Education and Sports of Karelia, and representatives of the Russian Triathlon Federation. We discussed the possibility of opening a triathlon department at one of the Republic’s sports schools,” said Mikhail Pokhvalin, Head of the Karelia Triathlon Federation.
