Since the beginning one of the goals of the ITU Medical Committee has been a medical/technical Conference on Triathlon. Some interesting initiatives have been done in past years, but come March in Alicante, we will finally organize the first World Conference of Science in Triathlon. The contributions of ITU President Marisol Casado have been essential to motivate the working group. All parties, including the staff at the University of Alicante, Prof. Roberto Cejuela (Scientific Committee) and the Organizing Committee, have been working very hard since ITU Congress in September 2009 in Gold Coast, Australia.
The World Conference of Science in Triathlon Conference will be an excellent opportunity for National Federations, doctors, coaches and athletes to discuss triathlon’s medical and technical aspects. The goal of is to create a forum for scientific knowledge to be applied to triathlon.
We now know a lot of things about the physiology, training, traumatology, psychology, and nutrition of endurance sports, but we need to focus our studies and the attention to the particular aspects of the practice of triathlon.
After three Olympic Games and inching ever closer to triathlon’s fourth Olympic Games in London, it’s time to study everything to help the triathletes to train and perform with healthy practices and with the best performance in mind.
As the concept grows and more professionals and practitioners gain interest in the conference, we are receiving a lot of scientific researches.
We envision the World Conference of Science in Triathlon as a bi-annual event and feel it is important for the future of triathlon that all the members of the ITU community support this project.
See you in Alicante, Spain!
