Gold Coast Technical Education Seminar: Participants from 17 countries participated on the Level 2 Technical Officials and Event Organisers seminar held in Gold Coast on th 8th and 9th of September. The seminar was combined with the ITU Observer program, which showcased the Grand Final and provided opportunities for future organizing committees to learn on the level of such and organization. The seminar had a common session in the beginning with the Technical Officials and the Event Organizers. In the second part there were specific education for both groups. The seminar was conducted by Enrique Quesada, Thanos Nikopoulos, Sheila O’Kelly and Gergely Markus.
The Assistant Technical Delegate Programme successfully continued in Gold Coast where 3 aspiring officials – Jacqui Kenny, Shanelle Barrett and Murrey Hilder – assisted Thanos Nikopoulos to work with USM events and provide good circumstances for the athletes coming to Gold Coast from all over the world. There were almost 50 Technical Officials volunteered in Gold Coast coming from Australia and New Zealand, as well as the ten self funded International Officials making their way from other continents.
The following Multisport World Championship events were awarded during the ITU Congress in Gold Coast: Long Distance Triathlon 2011 – Las Vegas, USA; Long Distance Triathlon 2012 – Vitoria, Spain; and Duathlon 2011 – Gijon, Spain. Further bids are expected for the Long Distance Duathlon 2010 and the Cross Triathlon in the near future to complete the multisport calendar for 2010.
Level 2 Technical Education Seminars will be conducted in the near future in Madrid, Spain (24/25 October 2009) and Subic Bay, Philippines (13/14 November 2009). Application forms will be sent this week to the respective National Federations.
