The organisers of the ETU European Cross Triathlon Championships in Visegrad, Hungary have informed us that a number of sponsors have withdrawn their support at short notice and that has put the LOC in some difficulty.
After consulting with a number of interested parties and discussing the implications with the LOC, ETU has decided that the event will go ahead as planned on 2nd July.
The inevitable consequence is that the prize fund for Elite athletes will be reduced. The prize fund was to have been €10’000.
The organisers are doing what they can to seek alternative sponsors. The ETU has agreed to waive part of the event fee and the Hungarian Triathlon Federation is also prepared to make a contribution and so the prize fund currently stands at €4’000. This means that the top five athletes will still receive prize money. All parties hope that the prize fund will be enhanced by race day and are working hard to try to increase the fund.
The ETU, Hungarian Triathlon Federation and LOC deeply regret this turn of events and hope that Elite and age-group athletes will still wish to compete in a well-organised event over a stunning course. The date of the event remains July 2nd 2011.
