World Triathlon has welcomed confirmation from the International World Games Association (IWGA) that duathlon will remain part of the Sports Programme for The World Games 2029 in Karlsruhe, Germany, to be held from 19 to 29 July 2029. The confirmation, approved by the IWGA Executive Committee and the Karlsruhe 2029 Organising Committee, secures duathlon's place among the 36 sports and 62 disciplines set to bring around 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries to the German city.
The confirmation marks another important milestone in preparations for Karlsruhe 2029 and provides athletes and National Federations with certainty as qualification pathways and preparations for the Games continue.
World Triathlon and duathlon have a strong and established relationship with The World Games, with the event included in the most recent editions of the event in Chengdu, China, in 2025, and Birmingham, Alabama, USA, in 2022, giving some of the world’s best duathletes the opportunity to compete on a major international stage alongside athletes from across the sporting world.
World Triathlon President Antonio Arimany said:
'We are extremely proud to continue our excellent relationship with The World Games and to see duathlon confirmed once again for Karlsruhe 2029. The World Games provide a unique platform for our athletes to gain greater exposure, compete in a truly world-class multi-sport environment and be part of one of the major sporting events on the international calendar. For duathlon, this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase the strength, diversity and excitement of our sport to new audiences around the world.
'We are grateful to the International World Games Association and the Karlsruhe 2029 Organising Committee, as well as the German Federation, for their continued commitment to duathlon and to working with us to provide athletes with these exceptional opportunities. We look forward to building on the success of Chengdu and Birmingham and to making Karlsruhe another memorable chapter for our athletes and our sport.'
Around 4,000 athletes from more than 100 countries are expected to compete across the 36 sports and 62 disciplines confirmed for The World Games 2029. The programme brings together a diverse range of sports and disciplines, reflecting the global reach and sporting excellence of the World Games movement.
