World Triathlon continued to support coach development in August and September through the Bishkek Level 1 course and the launch of a new continuing professional development (CPD) opportunity for coaches. The projects combine formal entry-level coach education with ongoing professional learning, providing coaches at all levels with opportunities to develop their knowledge, gain certification and further their understanding of the principles required to continue in their coaching journey.
Bishkek Coaches Level 1 Course completed
The 2026 Bishkek World Triathlon Coaches Level 1 Course has now concluded, with the final results confirmed. Eighteen coaches took part in the programme, which combined an online learning phase through the World Triathlon Education & Knowledge Hub with a face-to-face week in Kyrgyzstan from 12 to 16 August. Alexey Kalinin (KGZ) and Firas Al-Hmood (JOR) facilitated the course in Russian, supporting coaches through both the online and practical components. Sixteen coaches successfully completed the course and are now certified at Level 1 through to 2030. The newly certified coaches included six women and 10 men, aged between 18 and 53. The coaches represented four National Federations: KGZ (6), KAZ (5), UZB (2) and RUS (3). The combination of online learning and face-to-face education gave coaches the opportunity to build their knowledge while applying the course content in a practical environment.
World Triathlon thanks the host federation for its welcome and the Facilitators for the support and care provided to each coach throughout the course.
New CPD course focuses on the science behind training
Alongside the Level 1 pathway, registration is now open for World Triathlon's new Advanced Training Planning: Sport Science Basics CPD course. The course is designed for coaches looking to strengthen their understanding of the science behind training and apply that knowledge to planning and adapting programmes. Across 8 modules, coaches are introduced to key areas of sport science by coaches, physiologists and sport scientists, with a focus on translating scientific principles into practical coaching decisions.
The course covers -
Energy systems and how they fuel performance from sprint to long-course racing
VO₂max, thresholds and the interpretation of performance data
Heart rate, power and pace as training tools
Environmental physiology, including heat, altitude and hydration
Testing principles and how to turn data into training decisions
The eight-module programme provides coaches with an opportunity to further develop their understanding of training planning while building on the knowledge gained through formal coach education.
Registration is now open through the World Triathlon Education & Knowledge Hub.
