World Triathlon continued to support athlete development across its regions in September, with Team Europe and Team Americas activities complemented by regional development camps in Oceania and Asia. The activities brought together athletes from a wide range of National Federations, providing opportunities for training, competition preparation and international experience while strengthening regional connections and development pathways.
Team Europe activities
Two Team Europe activities took place during September, in Derry and Zagreb.
The 2026 Derry Team Europe activity brought together six athletes from CRO and SLO, with female athletes representing 33 per cent of participants. The activity provided an opportunity for developing athletes from the two National Federations to train and develop within an international environment.
“The potential within this group is exciting, and I look forward to seeing where their hard work, commitment and belief can take them next.” ~ Natasha Kelly (IRL), TRI Head Coach

The 2026 Zagreb Team Europe camp brought together athletes and development stakeholders, with the President of the Croatian Triathlon Federation and the President of the Europe Triathlon Development Committee attending as special guests. The involvement of National Federation and regional leadership provided an opportunity to connect athlete development activities with the broader development of triathlon across Europe.
“Many thanks to Europe Triathlon for the opportunity and the support provided; without them, my participation in this competition would not have been possible. With their help, I achieved my best result as a junior—9th place in a highly competitive event with a large field of participants. Thank you once again, and I hope to see you again soon!” ~ Alexandru - Rares Popa (ROU), Athlete
“Europe Triathlon Development Team continued at the weekend with the European Junior Cup in Zareb. Zagreb represented the four events of the season at which the Europe Triathlon Team has supported athletes, after Tata, Moletai and Darry earlier in the year. A cohort of seven athletes took to the start line. In large fields overflowing with talent and European Cup medalists, the squad knew they would have to fight for every place in the semifinals, with three of them taking finals: Maša Marković (SRB), Alexandru – Rares Popa (ROU) and Marat Veratsennikau (BLR). It is a great success for such a small development team.” ~ Miloš Petelin (SLO), TRI Facilitator
Team Americas in Pontevedra
The 2026 Pontevedra Team Americas activity brought together four participants representing PUR, HON, ARG and ECU. Female athletes accounted for 50 per cent of participants, continuing World Triathlon's focus on providing development opportunities for women alongside broader athlete pathway activities. The participation of four National Federations also provided an opportunity for athletes from across the Americas to train and develop together within an international setting.
Oceania Regional Development Camp
The 2026 Moorea Oceania Triathlon World Triathlon Development Regional Camp was one of the larger regional athlete development activities during the month, bringing together 45 participants from 10 National Federations. Athletes from TAH, NCL, COK, PLW, FIJ, SOL, PNG, SAM, NMI and GUM participated in the camp. The programme included the 2027 Pacific Games Test Event, providing athletes with competition experience and an opportunity to assess their preparation for future major regional competition.
“It was a great camp. Great numbers were challenging and fun at the same time. The test event was a success and proved very helpful for all athletes for next year's Pacific Games” ~ Ray Reupena, Oceania Triathlon Development Coordinator

Asia Regional Development Camp
In Central Asia, the 2026 Cholpon-Ata Asia Triathlon World Triathlon Development Regional Camp brought together 12 participants from UZB, KGZ and JOR. Female athletes represented 50 per cent of participants, with the camp providing another opportunity to support balanced participation within regional athlete development activities. The camp also highlighted the continued development of local delivery capacity within Asia Triathlon. Newly accredited facilitators were involved in delivering development projects, demonstrating the connection between World Triathlon's coach and facilitator development work and the delivery of athlete development activities.
“It is great to be back at this venue in Kyrgyzstan. And it is even greater to see AST’s newly accredited facilitators delivering development projects” ~ Firas Al-Hmood (JOR), Asia Triathlon Development Coordinator
“This is already my fourth training camp with Asia Triathlon. I came here with my athletes primarily so they could overcome their fear of interacting with athletes from other countries, and they succeeded. The seminars helped me rethink how to measure intensity and set training objectives. Training with stronger athletes gave my athletes the motivation to improve, which I’m very happy about.” ~ Roza Bikkinina (KGZ), Coach

Supporting athletes and developing regional capacity
September saw World Triathlon Development continue its athlete development activities across Europe, the Americas, Oceania and Asia, with athletes from National Federations coming together through Team Europe, Team Americas and regional development camps. Female participation reached 50 per cent in both the Pontevedra and Cholpon-Ata activities.
