With Age-Group medals being scooped up in Estonia and then in Scotland, the next big chance to climb up onto the podium will be this weekend in Madrid.

The 2018 Madrid ETU Challenge Long Distance Triathlon European Championships will see Age-Group athletes across the categories crowned after they have completed a truly immense challenge this year, along the same course as the Elite.

With the long-distance calendar nearly saturated, the line-up for the Elite athletes does not feature the defending champions and so we can expect the record books to carry news names by Sunday evening.

Amongst the Age Group athletes are some who will be seeking to defend or improve their previous performances over the full distance but it is unlikely that we will, at these championships, see the same degree of domination that the Brits enjoyed in Glasgow.

Although unable to win ETU medals, the several athletes from way outside Europe will race alongside the massed uniforms of the European Federations.
