XXXVII World Triathlon Congress elects Antonio Fernández Arimany as President

On Monday afternoon in Torremolinos, Spain, Antonio Fernandez Arimany was elected by members to become the third President of World Triathlon at the 37th Congress of the sport’s world governing body. Mr Arimany succeeds Marisol Casado, who steps down after 16 years.

Following four days of incredible Championship Finals racing, the Congress saw elections held to the Executive Board and all nine Committees and Commissions and the Tribunal.

Gabriela Gallegos (USA), Shin Otsuka (JPN), Antonio Alvarez (MEX) and Debbie Alexander (RSA) were elected Vice Presidents.

Elected to the remaining four ordinary Board positions were Leslie Buchanan (CAN), Bernard Saint-Jean (FRA), Caterina Vacchi (ITA) and Marco Antonio La Porta (BRA).

Promising a new era for the sport of triathlon, Mr. Arimany said; “I am truly honoured to accept this responsibility and to lead our beloved sport into a new era. This is an exciting time for triathlon, and I am ready to embrace the challenges ahead. Together, we will work to elevate triathlon to the next level, ensuring that our athletes, coaches, and communities have the support they need to thrive.”

Emphasising the importance of following on from Marisol Casado, Mr. Arimany thanked the full support of “the Spanish National Federation and every National Federation that has voted for our project, but this is not only for them. Our project is open for everyone, and I would love for everyone to feel part of it.”

“I promise to make the changes needed to make this organisation even greater. It is essential that we work together with National Federations, Continental Confederations, and all members of the triathlon community. By fostering strong partnerships, we can continue the great governance of our organisation and establish new horizons for the sport. Together, we will create an environment where everyone can succeed and where the spirit of triathlon flourishes.”

The Congress members were presented with the event schedule for 2025, including the Championship Finals in Wollongong, Australia, and Multisport World Championships in Pontevedra, Spain, as well as the new year’s Championship Series, World Cup, Winter World Championships, Para Triathlon and eSport events.
