World Triathletes celebrate success in Torremolinos and handover to Wollongong

The 2024 World Triathlon Age-Group Championships Awards Ceremony marked the official closing of a thrilling event, with thousands of athletes celebrating the success of their podium finishers, in Playa de los Alamos. Over the course of the World Championships weekend, 5,500 athletes from 70 nations competed in Torremolinos, Spain, delivering outstanding performances and creating unforgettable memories. The Closing Ceremony included the traditional handover, as Torremolinos passed the flag to the City of Wollongong, Australia, the host for the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals and World Triathlon Age-Group Championships.

World Triathlon President Marisol Casado congratulated all the Age-Group medallists for their remarkable achievements and took a moment to express her appreciation.
“I want to congratulate every athlete who competed this weekend, you have made your nations proud and represented the very best of our sport. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the city of Torremolinos for their incredible hospitality and dedication in hosting the 2024 World Triathlon Championship Finals. It has been a truly unforgettable event.”

During the ceremony, Marisol flew the World Triathlon flag and handed over the Championship Finals role to Wollongong, with Kerry Hunt, Director of Community Services at Wollongong City Council in attendance to receive the flag. The Mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita Del Cid, expressed her gratitude to the World Triathlon community for bringing the world’s best athletes to race in her city, highlighting the success and excitement the event brought to Torremolinos.
