El Triatlón Mundial de Kitzbühel siempre es una de las carreras más intrigantes de la serie, con sus 750m de natación seguidos por 11,5km en bicicleta y una etapa pedestre de 2,5km cuesta arriba del imponente Horn, con más de un kilómetro en subida vertical. En la competencia femenina, el trazado fue ideal para que la británica Jodie Stimpson ingresara su nombre a la lista de ganadores de la SMT.

Luego de la competencia masculina, Alistair Brownlee dijo que este nuevo circuito tan dinámico se convierte en uno de los que mejor le sientan. Sin embargo, nadie esperaba que Brownlee pudiera ganar su décimo cuarta carrera de la serie en este circuito y con tanta facilidad.
