November marked another packed month in World Triathlon Development, Education and National Federation services worldwide. Coaches, Athletes, Technical Officials and Event organisers met on different educational occasions. The Korea Triathlon - World Triathlon Coaches Education Programme came to an end after 3 months online learning and approved once again that it was one of the most unique coaching projects bringing people together from all over the world to exchange knowledge, share experience and level up coaching skills. And finally, the day arrived when National Federation representatives could gather in person and virtually at the XXXV World Triathlon Congress in Abu Dhabi, UAE after the last in-person congress in 2019 in Lausanne. The season hasn’t been finished yet more development projects are taking place in December in Africa and in Oceania while Continental Confederations started their planning process toward 2023.
2022 Vina del Mar ASICS World Triathlon Team
The ASICS World Triathlon Team project in 2022 came to an end at the Pan Am Games test event in Vina Del Mar, Chile. During the three team projects ten athletes from seven National Federations (Bermuda, Chile, Costa Rica, Estonia, Island, Morocco, Slovakia) representing three continents (Africa, America, Europe) made it to the team. We have three more athletes (Antoanela Manac (ROU), Baslma Elsalamoney (EGY), Tyler Smith (BER) in the selection team who could not make to the selected events for various reasons. The year of 2023 will be the most important in terms of Olympic Qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
World Triathlon will announce the program early next year releasing the World Cup events (5-6) included in the programme. World Triathlon Development is looking forward to welcoming new members to the team based on the results and performances in 2022. Read the full article online.

Olympic Solidarity Youth Development Programme at the CARIFTA Triathlon, Aquathlon and Mixed Relay Championships, Bermuda
The 4th CARIFTA Triathlon, Aquathlon, and Mixed Team Relay Championship took place on 12 - 13 November 2022 in Bermuda, a week after the 2022 World Triathlon Championship Series Bermuda. The CARIFTA Championships had a COVID-forced break since 2019.
World Triathlon Development started to build up a Youth Development Programme toward the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games supported by the IOC Olympic Solidarity. The kick-off project was welcomed by the participating National Federations, coaches and athletes that provided opportunities for discussions, mapping out current status of NFs, observing athletes and setting up a working landscape with coaches.
Francesco Fissore (ITA), World Triathlon Development Expert
“The CARIFTA Championships was indeed an exciting experience. The athletes had the opportunity to race on the same field of play of the WTCS Bermuda, which was held a week before, and to feel the energy of their favourite champions. It was amazing to see so many athletes and coaches enjoying a full weekend of racing triathlon, aquathlon and Mixed Team Relay. Everyone did his best and the level of competition was pretty good for all categories, I’m sure we will see some of these young athletes on the international field really soon. Thanks to the National Federations, managers, coaches and parents for their hard work in their own country! I am really looking forward to working with them on the road to the Dakar Youth Olympic Games 2026 and beyond!”

Coach Development
We have an outstandingly busy schedule for coach development toward end of the year:
2022 Korea Triathlon Federation - World Triathlon Coaches Courses
This year’s main coach education project has been again our joint programme with the Korea Triathlon Federation, where out of 109 participants 52 coaches graduated just recently:
13 on Level 1,
29 on Level 2,
and 10 on the Physiology of Triathlon - Youth and Juniors CPD course (which this year has been available as an intermediate level for the ones not eligible to take Level 2 yet).
Since its launch in 2017 this programme educated 292 coaches from 64 National Federations from all 5 continents.
2022 Americas Triathlon - World Triathlon Coaches Level 2 E-Course (English)
Carrying on the 2022 World Triathlon Coaches Level 1 Bridging Course for English-speaking Caribbean Coaches in March 2022, the group kicked off the 3.5 months long World Triathlon Coaches Level 2 online course in September. To better use this online course opportunity, some places were also offered to the Europe and Africa region, where the time difference is still manageable. The course is led by Jonah Camps (TTO) and Claudia Beristain (MEX).
Meanwhile, Claudia Beristain (MEX), Rodrigo Milazzo (BRA) and Vicent Beltran (ESP) also lead the 2022 Americas Triathlon - World Triathlon Coaches Level 1 E-Course (Spanish) with 41 participants from 14 Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Honduras, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela). The method of delivery in this case is fully online, with weekly Facilitator Open Hours and topic-specific seminars over the 6-week interactive phase of the course.
Three face-to-face Level 1 Coaches courses took place onsite at Ribnica, Slovenia; Putrajaya, Malaysia; and Beirut, Lebanon.
2022 Ribnica World Triathlon Level 1 Coaches Course
18 coach candidates from 8 countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia) took five intense face-to-face course days between 23 and 27 November in Slovenia. They are finalising their post-course submissions. The course has been delivered by Milos Petelin (SLO) and Zeljko Bijuk(CRO). Milos Petelin (SLO) welcomed the Level 1 coach course participants in his hometown with great pleasure “It was a big pleasure to share my experience in the sport with all the course participants, who showed great interest during these five days of the course.”
2022 Putrajaya World Triathlon Level 1 Coaches Course
One of our two recent Level 1 courses on the Asian continent led by Emma Carney (AUS) and Anthony Lozada (PHI) is just past its contact days (27 November - 1 December), 18 participants have already returned to their homes in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore to work on their outstanding tasks.
2022 Beirut OS - World Triathlon Coaches Level 1 Course
The other face-to-face Asian course funded by Olympic Solidarity took place in Beirut and was delivered by Franz Studer (RSA) and Mahdi Mnif (TUN) between 29 November and 3 December with a group of 16 candidates from Lebanon.
The representative of the Lebanese Triathlon Federation shared his view on this course “I witnessed a very friendly atmosphere. The interaction between candidates & facilitators was really good. Excellent pace helped the candidates to digest the load of information easily because of the well organized course & professionalism level from both facilitators. It’s always a plus to the Lebanese Triathlon Federation to have new coaches on different levels to serve their community. It was certainly a success. Very good in every way ! “
The facilitator Franz Studer (RSA) also reflected on the course delivery “This group of coaches quickly transformed into a great team, worked hard and laughed a lot! The level of skills, knowledge and commitment shown during the course is promising a great future for triathlon in Lebanon.”
Again, participants, in this case, are also required to complete their home studies in order to obtain World Triathlon Certification.
2023 Certification Revalidation of Coaches (CRoC)
Preparations of next year’s annual revalidation tasks are also already underway. Part of this will be recently approved rule changes effective from 1 January 2023. The detailed description of the revalidation process is available online here.
