World Triathlon

The fifth Australian Youth Olympic Festival (AYOF) gets underway next week in Sydney.  This youth multi-sport event is a significant part of developing future Olympians and a legacy of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.  More than 1600 athletes from 25 countries will participate over five days of competition in 17 sports, including triathlon.  The AYOF begins on January 14 and runs through January 18 with the triathlon on January 16 and 17.

The triathlon competition includes an ITU Sport Development Team with athletes from Korea, Serbia, Guatemala, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The AYOF Triathlon will consist of 30 men & 30 women from ten teams with a maximum of six athletes per team (three male and three female).

It is for ITU Junior age-category (16-19) and will consist of a sprint distance (750m/20km/5km) draft legal triathlon on Friday January 16, followed by a team relay (3 x (300m/8km/2km) on Saturday January 17 as per ITU race rules.

The AYOF Triathlon will be conducted at Sydney International Regatta Centre, Penrith along with AYOF Rowing & Canoeing events.

The standard of the field is world class and will give top juniors an opportunity to compete against junior triathletes from Europe, Asia, Oceania, America and Africa.  This is an outstanding opportunity that is usually only available once a year at World Championships.

The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) is extremely pleased with the success of the past four Australian Youth Olympic Festivals (AYOFs) and the increasing international participation from National Olympic Committees (NOCs) across the globe.

The AOC believes the AYOF will complement the International Olympic Committees (IOCs) plans for the global Youth Olympic Games (YOG).

The AYOF seeks to provide future Olympic athletes with an environment reminiscent of an Olympic Games and promote the Olympic ideals of friendship, solidarity and fair play.

The event has the patronage of the IOC. The five day AYOF embraces a high level of sports competition, and features elements of the Olympic Games model such as an Opening Ceremony, Medal Ceremonies and Village type accommodation for athletes and team officials.

El quinto Festival Olmpico Australiano Juvenil (AYOF) se pone en marcha la prxima semana en Sydney. Esta prueba multideportiva juvenil es una parte importante del futuro desarrollo de deportistas Olmpicos y un legado de los Juegos Olmpicos de Sydney 2000. Ms de 1600 atletas de 25 pases participarn durante cinco das de competicin en 17 deportes, incluido en triatln. El AYOF da comienzo el 14 de Enero y continuar hasta el 18 de Enero, teniendo lugar el triatln el 16 y 17 de Enero.

La competicin del triatln presenta un Equipo de Desarrollo Deportivo de la ITU con atletas de Corea, Serbia, Guatemala, Zimbabwe y Namibia.

El Triatln AYOF consistir en 30 hombres y 30 mujeres de diez equipos con un mximo de seis atletas por equipo (tres hombres y tres mujeres).

La prueba es para la categora-edad Junior de la ITU (16-19) y consistir en un triatln de distancia esprint (750m/20km/5km) con drafting permitido el viernes 16 de Enero, seguido de un relevo por equipos (3 x (300m/8km/2km) el sbado 17 de Enero conforme a las reglas de carrera ITU

El Triatln del AYOF se llevar a cabo en el Centro de Regatas Internacional de Sydney, Penrith junto con las pruebas de Remo y Canoa.

El nivel de la prueba ser de clase mundial y brindar la oportunidad a los mejores triatletas junior de competir contra otros triatletas junior de Europa, Asia, Oceana, Amrica y frica. Esta es una excelente oportunidad que habitualmente slo se da una vez al ao en los Campeonatos del Mundo.

El Comit Olmpico Australiano (AOC) est extremadamente satisfecho con el xito de los cuatro Festivales Olmpicos Australianos Juveniles anteriores (AYOFs) y el incremento de la participacin internacional de los Comits Olmpicos Nacionales (NOCs) por todo el mundo.

Los cinco das del AYOF presentan un alto nivel de competicin deportiva y de elementos caractersticos del modelo de los Juegos Olmpicos, tales como la Ceremonia de Apertura, la Ceremonia de Medallas y un alojamiento tipo Villa para los atletas y los equipos oficiales.
