Athletes await final confirmation of places as Paris 2024 Paralympic Qualification window closes

Last weekend’s World Triathlon Para Series Montreal was the final action of the year-long Paris 2024 Paralympic Qualification period, with many of the athletes hoping to finish it inside the relative safety of the top nine in the rankings of their respective classes.

‘Relative’ because of the fact that within that nine there is a limit of two athletes per gender and per class for each nation, the top five in the women’s PTS3 will ‘class-up’ to the PTS4 race, and there remain 16 invitational places to be awarded, bringing the total number of athletes to 120.

So, while there remains many places to be confirmed and stories to be told over the coming days, for many it is a case of mission accomplished, and project Paris can now continue apace.

During the qualification period, six Para Series events, eleven Para Cups (excluding the cancelled Abu Dhabi) and the respective Continental Championships all contributed ranking points, and you can find all the current standings at the end of the period here.

Each National Paralympic Committee has the final say on which athletes take the berths, meaning the highest ranked athletes may not necessarily be the ones that will feature in Paris.

The triathlon events at Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place over 1 September (PTS2, 3, 4 and 5) and 2 September (PTWC and PTVI), with the races getting underway from 8.15am.

A complete breakdown of the qualifiers and invitational places will follow as soon as available.
