También texto en español. Warm weather (10°C) and acceptable snow conditions welcomed the athletes in Valberg, France. Valberg is a famous ski resort of Nice and the whole region of French Riviera, situated on 1700 meter above sea level. The snow conditions were very difficult in all Europe, but the LOC could put the snow on the tracks for run, bike and cross-country ski. Only the cross-country ski segment had to be changed to an 8 laps of 1,25km in the last moment.

In the men’s field four out of the top five 2006 World Cup series leaders were on the start line as well as the local favourite Nicolas Lebrun. On the one lap 6.8km run course Arne Post from Norway and the young Italian Daniel Antonioli were the fastest. They were closely followed by Lebrun and Victor Lobo from Spain. The former World Champion from Austria, Sigi Bauer caught up with the leaders by the end of the bike segment with the best time of the day and the three athletes - Post, Bauer and Antonioli - started the final segment the cross-country ski together. The specialist of this discipline, Post decided soon that the first World Cup win of the season would go to Norway. Bauer finished second and Antonioli third.

The Women started at the same time with the men. Yolanda Magallon from Spain was the first in the transition area to change for the bike. Second was Sarka Grabmullerova from Czech Republic and she was followed by Camilla Hott Johansen from Norway.  Hott Johansen was the best on the bike and she passed first Grabmullerova and then Magallon as well. She managed a lead of over a minute for the beginning of the cross-country ski. Grabmullerova dropped back to the 5th position.  Hott Johansen and her teammate, Maria Kalnes did the last discipline with exactly the same best time split and this resulted, that the first and second place went to Norway. Giuliana Lamastra got the bronze for Italy.

The next round of the ITU Winter Triathlon World Cup series will be in Germany, Freudenstadt.

Una temperatura moderada (10º C) y condiciones de nieve aceptables dieron la bienvenida a los atletas en Valberg, Francia. Valberg es una famosa estación de esquí de Niza y de toda la región de la rivera francesa, situada a 1700 m. sobre el mar. Las condiciones de nieve eran muy malas en toda Europa, pero el organizador pudo poner suficiente nieve en la pista para correr, montar en bicicleta y hacer esquí campo a través. Solamente el segmento de esquí campo a través tuvo que ser cambiado a 8 vueltas de 1,25 Km. en el último momento.   

Por parte de los hombre 4 de los 5 mejores participantes de la serie de Copas del Mundo de 2006 estuvieron en la linea de salida al igual que el favorito local Nicolas Lebrun. En la primera prueba a una vuelta de 6.8 Km. de carrera Arne Prosa, de Noruega, y el joven Italiano Daniel Antonioli fueron los más rápidos. Estuvieron seguidos de cerca por Lebrun y Victor Lobo de España. El antiguo Campeón del Mundo de Austria, Sigi Bauer alcanzó a los líderes al final de la prueba en bici marcando el mejor tiempo del día y los tres atletas - Post, Bauer y Antonioli – empezaron la última prueba de ski campo a través juntos. El especialista de esta disciplina, Post decidió pronto que la primera Copa del Mundo de la temporada sería para Noruega. Bauer terminó segundo y Antonioli tercero.

Las mujeres empezaron al mismo tiempo que los hombres. La española Yolanda Magallon fue la primera en el área retransición a bici. La segunda fue Sarka Grabmullerova de la República Checa seguida de Hott Johansen, de Noruega. Hott Johansen fue la major en bici y adelantó primero a Grabmullerova y luego a Magallon. Logró un liderazgo de más de un minuto para el principio de la prueba de esquí. Grabmullerova cayó hasta la quinta posición. Hott Johansen y su compañera de equipo, Maria Kalnes culminaron la última disciplina distanciadas con el mismo mejor tiempo y lo que dio lugar a que Noruega se llevase la primera y la segunda posición. Giuliana Lamastra se hizo con el bronce para Italia.   

La siguiente ronda de la serie de la Copa del Mundo de Triatlón de Invierno ITU tendrá lugar en Alemania, en Freudenstadt.
