Registration Opens for Pontevedra 2019 five World Championships
ITU is pleased to announce that all registrations are now open for the 2019 Multisport World Championships that will take place from April 27 to May 4, 2019 in Pontevedra, Spain.
Visitors from all over the world will be experiencing a huge international multisport festival consisting of five world championships within the same week and a celebration of unity and excitement. And we a not only talking about elite or Age Group athletes – you can also race as an Open Race athlete! Pontevedra, the hometown of five times world champion Javier Gomez Noya, is ready to host everyone!
The week of triathlon will kick off with the Duathlon World Championship, with the Age Groupers competing in the Sprint distance being the first ones to take the stage, on April 27 at 8am. The Junior Women’s competition will be held right after, with the Men following at 13.45h. The Elite and U23 women’s race will be at 3:45 p.m., while the Men will start at 6:45 p.m.
Sunday, April 28 will be the turn for the Duathlon Standard Distance World Championships, again with the age groupers being the first one to compete, at 8am, to be followed by the open races. At 2:00 p.m. the Paratriathlon Duathlon World Championship will be held, and in the afternoon it will be the turn of the spectacular relay events, with the Elite and Junior categories starting at 5:30 p.m.
The Cross Triathlon World Championship will take place on Tuesday, April 30, with the Junior races starting at 13.30h and the Paratriathletes taking the stage only ten minutes later. The Elite and U23 races will be at 3:30 pm, for the Men, and 3:35 pm. For the Women, while this time Age Groupers will start the race in the afternoon, at 15:45 h.
The Aquathlon World Championship will be held on Thursday, May 2, starting at 3:00 p.m. for the Elite, U23 and Junior athletes, and half an hour later the Paratriathletes. From 16h it will be the turn of the Age Groupers and Open competitions.
Finally, on Saturday, May 4, two World Champions will be crowned: the Long Distance Triathlon and the Aquabike World Championships. The Long Distance race will start at 8am, the Para race at 8.10am and Age Groupers at 8.25am. At 9.15h it will be the time for the last event of the week of triathlon at its best, the Aquabike World Championships.
Registration is now open for everyone, and you better get your training done, because the clock is ticking. And remember, all athletes competing in four or more of the World Championship events will be crowned a Multisport Legend and these superhumans will be honoured at a special ceremony at the end of the festival.
