Athletes chatter ahead of WTS Leeds

With less than three days to go until WTS Leeds, the Brownlee brothers’ hometown is ready to welcome the first stop of the European leg of the series. Let’s hear what athletes think about the race this Sunday.

Alistair Brownlee
On his season so far: “I’ve been doing some long distance and middle distance races so far this year. It’s a out twice the distance of here in Leeds. And I’m really looking forward racing here in Leeds, I couldn’t miss my home race.

On the atmosphere in Leeds. “Last year the atmosphere was incredible, and I think it helped get the message out there that the Leeds race is the one more supported by the people of the WTS circuit. Racing here for me last year was just magical. I just hope that even more people will show up this year and they shout even louder”.

Jonathan Brownlee
On what to expect from this Sunday: “It’s gonna be a great day, I hope we’ll have lots of people watching. It’s a tough course but I really like it”

About his season so far: “I’ve been quite unlucky, with injuries and crashes. I just hope I can perform great here and I can be with Alistair on the podium”.

Non Stanford.
On what she is looking for in this race: “Definitely I want to perform better than last year. Hopefully I’ll have a better swim than last year too, so that when it comes to the run I can feel more comfortable.

On her season so far: “I won in Chengdu World Cup and in Yokohama WTS I had probably the best swim of my career. I finished in 7th place after the bike crash, but I ran the second fastest of all triathletes, so I’m quite happy with that.

Kirstin Kasper
On her feelings for the race: “I finished second in Cagliari, I executed my race the way I wanted to and now I’m really excited about racing in Leeds. I came with great preparations, and I will perform the way I have planned. It’s my first time in Leeds, I watched last year on TV and thought that it will be really nice to race here”.

On the different weather conditions and the bike course from Cagliari: “It’s a tough course, very technical and challenging, but I like it a lot. It will be a lot of fun. And it’s also gonna be really different conditions than the ones we had in Cagliari, but I usually train with this weather so it should be fine”.
