Anti-Doping Update on April 3, 2012
The ITU Anti-Doping team would like to offer congratulations to the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) who are celebrating their twentieth anniversary this week in Ottawa, Canada. The Canadian National Anti-Doping Agency is a partner of ITU’s as they are contracted to help with our Out of Competition testing. Twenty years of keeping sport clean and ethical is certainly a wonderful achievement and we look forward to working with them for another twenty years.
Another one of ITU’s partners, the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) also had a noteworthy function lately. They hosted an evening with Olympic gold medallists, Emma Snowsill and Jan Frodeno, and other triathletes, including such legends as Paula Newby-Fraser. It was a question and answer evening under SAIDS I Play Fair initiative. Well done to all involved for a very successful evening.
The ITU Anti-doping team is still reviewing all of the presentations that they saw at the WADA IF-NADO Symposium recently in Lausanne, Switzerland. ITU’s Anti-doping Director, Leslie Buchanan, was fortunate to moderate one of the break-out sessions and to take part in an International Paralympic Committee (IPC) anti-doping meeting. The ITU AD Team hopes to incorporate many of the ideas presented at the meeting and plans on continuing with many of the initiatives that they are already doing, such as the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP).
