2012 Photo of the Year Week Seven Result
The winner from this week’s Photo of the Year competition, shot at the ITU World Triathlon Yokohama, was a delightful surprise. While it was one of the most even elections in the competition to date, voters did not opt for a scenic vista or their favorite athlete.
Instead, the winner was of two young enthusiastic girls cheering on the Japansese triathletes. With matching outfits and undeniably excited, hopeful faces, you can’t help but fall in love with their innocence and passion for sport.

“One of the unsung advantages we have travelling the planet during the World Championships, is that we get to see the wonderment and innocence on the faces of the children of the world. So it wasn’t hard to pick out these beautiful Japanese blossoms amongst a forest of spectators during the heat of battle at the ITU World Championship race in Yokohama. Love is seeing children at their cutest when they are most intense and serious about what they are doing.”
With a slightly less margin of votes, the public’s second favourite photo was of Chile’s Barbara Riveros Diaz leading the elite women on the bike course. In the background is Yokohama’s famous Ferris wheel, making the race appear as if it took place at an amusement park.
